Discipleship Buddies: developing relationships for spiritual transformation
A heartbeat of The Orchard is ‘developing a life transforming relationship with Jesus Christ.’ We’ve discovered that’s best accomplished in the context of an ongoing, mutually supportive relationship with another person or a few other people. Ideally, this is a once a week, informal get together where you can discuss your spiritual progress and frustrations in light of Biblical principles. Each week, on the back of the sermon study page there are Scripture passages that take you deeper into the meaning of the sermon and questions to get you started in discipleship discussions about the message as it applies to your life.
The Discipleship Buddy contract, “People of The Orchard together in Covenant with the Holy Spirit,” is available below and also at the info desk in the front lobby each weekend and in the church office during the week. People of The Orchard together in Covenant with the Holy Spirit
As Pastors and Elders of The Orchard we are calling our church people into a covenant with the Holy Spirit so that we can fulfill the mission God has revealed for our church. By committing our selves individually, we understand that together we can experience the life God desires to provide for us described as these Four marks of a Holy Spirit empowered church:
- Lives transformed by the Holy Spirit toward Christlikeness. Matthew 28:19-20; Colossians 1:28; Galatians 4:19; 2 Corinthians 3:17-4:6; 1 John 16-17.
- Loving one another as Christ loved us. John 13:34-35; 15:9-17; 1 John 3:16-24; 4:16-18.
- Faithfully engaging with God in faith as the Body of Christ so that we are experiencing healings and miracles. John 14:12-14; Acts 2:42-3:10; 1 Corinthians 12-14; James 5:14-16.
- Telling others what Jesus has done, in the Bible and in our lives so that they put their faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, becoming born-again by the Spirit. Then we help them begin developing a life-transforming relationship with Jesus Christ.
I understand that as I develop these three behaviors in my life, as illustrated on the mountain, I and my church will experience in increasing measure the presence and power of the Holy Spirit. Together we will stand on the Summit of Holy Spirit empowerment.
